Be safe in your body, be safe in the world.

From early on in life we begin to adjust and inhibit our natural, full self expression; we stop feeling our body. This is a natural response when we have experiences of losing connection and love or simply not being met and seen by our caretakers as we express ourselves. For most of us, these are tiny moments of not feeling safe, supported and resourced or being ‘shushed’ at or in any way invalidated when expressing our feelings. As children we are predominantly in slower brain wave states which results that we model everything we experience around us without any filter. “This is how the world works and this is what I need to do to be safe and loved”. Tiny moments repeated over time cements these beliefs and nervous system responses deep in our being, laying the very foundation for what we come know as ourselves.
So now, breathing fuller brings our suppressed material to the surface; we feel more. As our nervous system and psyche have been shaped by feeling unsafe with these feelings they naturally come coupled with various degrees of anxiety, contraction and tension.
Bringing detailed awareness to feelings as purely physical sensations subtly changing and moving in the body lets us see through the illusion of stuckness and negativity. We experience firsthand that our resistance to feeling our feelings is what creates negativity, not the feelings themselves. Combined with complete relaxation of our whole being and a curious, receptive attitude allows for bodily feelings to integrate. This means that we remember aspects of the felt experience of being ourselves that we once upon a time learned to suppress.

Vipassana on steroids!
I teach and guide a gentle and pleasurable breathwork meditation based on ancient spiritual traditions and modern breathwork. I am a certified teacher of Vivation Breathwork and my teaching is largely shaped by this gentle, liberating and highly accessible practice. With a light-hearted approach I may instruct you to study feelings in your body in different ways and I may invite you to breathe in certain ways at certain times. However, my sole purpose is to support you towards total sovereignty with the practice. Your body knows how it wants to be breathed and you have all the intuitive wisdom and power to heal within. So, whether we have a 1:1 session or you work with my guided audio material, consider my voice and presence simply as a constant reminder of this.
This is a thorough, non-mystical and very precise skill that occurs purely at the feeling level. You do not need any cognitive understanding, only willingness to feel your feelings as honestly as you can. This practice easily integrates into daily life to expand our consciousness, reduce negativity, be more present and feel more comfortable in your body. An increased baseline level of comfort in your own body is directly and hugely impactful on how you perceive the world: people and places just seem more friendly and beautiful. Perhaps a more true version of reality?
As you practice body awareness and relaxation, you allow for more curiosity of your moment-to-moment experience of being alive and you can therefore learn more from the situations and relations you find yourself in. More and more, life’s inevitable challenges will be viewed, and dealt with, as opportunities to expand your sense of Self and increase your (receptive) capacity for joy, pleasure, beauty and love.
Breathe slowly, smile widely
